Erie residents took part in a Good Friday tradition focused on reflection and social justice.
Friday’s Pilgrimage for Peace brought dozens together to walk through the city and confront the reality of racism in the community.
The Benedictines for Peace hosted the annual event beginning at St. Peter’s Cathedral and moving through Erie’s streets.
This year’s stations of the cross centered on racism, with participants stopping at locations tied to inequality and injustice.
Walkers moved in silence between stops, using the time for prayer and reflection.
“It’s grown this year because we have an added feature to our Holy Week. We have a retreat going on, which involves 30 extra people, so it will expand what we’re doing,” said Sister Diane Rabe, administrator for the Benedictine Sisters of Erie.
Organizers said the goal is to connect faith with real-world issues impacting the community today.
