The Pittsburgh Pirates placed infielder Jared Triolo on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 4) with a right knee patellar tendon injury. To take his place on the active roster, outfielder Billy Cook was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Triolo’s injury occurred while running the bases in Friday’s win over the Baltimore Orioles. The 28-year-old has appeared in six games to start the season and is batting .217 with a .569 OPS, one double and one RBI. Five of his six games have come at shortstop and he played one game at third base.
Cook was part of the Pirates Opening Day roster but was sent down to Indianapolis on Thursday to make room for Konnor Griffin. Cook appeared in three games as a defensive replacement/pinch-runner, scored one run and played a pair of innings in right field.
