Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro on Monday ordered all Pennsylvania and United States flags on Commonwealth facilities, public buildings and grounds across the state lowered to fly at half-staff to honor Fire Chief Jeffory L. Buck and Assistant Fire Chief Robert R. Shick Jr. of the Walnuttown Fire Company in Berks County.

They were killed in the line of duty April 4, when the utility vehicle they were using to search for a missing woman was hit on Route 222 in Richmond Township. A New York man was charged with vehicular homicide while DUI and involuntary manslaughter and jailed in Berks County on outstanding warrants.

“Flags shall remain lowered to half-staff until the date of interment, which has not yet been announced,” the governor’s announcement state. “All Pennsylvanians are invited to participate in this tribute.”
