City of Erie swears in seven new officers to police department

On Monday morning, the City of Erie welcomed seven new police officers to the force.

The City of Erie Police Department (EPD) held a ceremony to swear in the new officers before family and friends, celebrating the newest members as they take on their roles within the force.

Regional, state police welcoming applicants for 2026 hiring cycle

The event marked a significant milestone in the careers of the new officers as they prepared to protect and serve the community.

Representatives said the new class of officers reflects the department’s commitment to diversity by hiring the first Vietnamese officer and swearing in two more female officers.

“Well, it’s a great feeling to bring new officers on. I mean, they really diversify the police department, and again, they bring their own personal experiences to the department so they can go out there and serve and protect,” said Christopher Janus, deputy chief of professional standards for EPD.

The EPD is currently accepting applications through June 30.
