We’re celebrating our 60th anniversary at JET 24 this week, and on Saturday, our team took to Millcreek Mall.
For decades, the station has brought local news coverage to the community— and our mission has remained the same.
“I’ve been here 31 years out of those 60 years, and I love it! It’s a great place to work and a great town to live in,” said Tom Atkins, JET 24’s evening meteorologist.
“While the faces and the names have changed in a lot of ways over the years, really the dedication to what we do hasn’t,” said Sean Lafferty, JET 24’s evening anchor.
At the mall, our team took donations throughout the day, collecting non-perishable food items and cash donations for Second Harvest Food Bank and gently used kids’ clothing items and toys for Sarah Reed.
“We’ve been serving the community for 60 years now, and what better way to celebrate than serving it some more,” said Spencer Lane, JET 24’s general manager. “Just donate and give back to the community like we always love to do, so we’re really happy to be able to serve Erie.”
The team says the Erie community is what it’s all about, and it’s the reason we do what we do.
“We’re nothing without this community, and people need help. Some people need a leg up, so let’s help them,” said Atkins.
“Never in 100 years did I think I would get the ability, the honor, to do what I’ve been able to do for as long as I’ve been able to do it. And for that, I can’t say thank you enough,” said Lafferty.
