The Erie County sheriff is asking the community to keep an eye out for scammers posing as courthouse employees.
Sheriff Chris Campanelli said scammers have been using the names of deputies and calling Erie County residents, trying to solicit money.

He said his employees never call the public to request money, and if you do get a call, he said to always be suspicious and call the county sheriff’s office when in doubt.
He said if his office has warrants for you, they’re not going to call and let you know ahead of time.

“They’re after elderly people and people that are easily scared, and they’re trying to get large amounts of money. I’ve heard up to five to ten thousand dollars, and for that kind of money, call us,” said Sheriff Campanelli.
Campanelli said scams are always happening with their office, and lately they’ve been getting one to two scam reports a week.
