READING, Pa. – The Berks County Intermediate Unit named the winner of its Annie Sullivan Award on Wednesday night.
Peter Suppa is a building trades instructor at the Reading Muhlenberg Career and Technology Center.
The award honors local teachers for their service to students with disabilities.
Suppa’s supervisor says he built the program from the ground up, helping students develop foundational construction skills while gaining confidence and independence.
Annie Sullivan was Helen Keller’s teacher and mentor who was nearly blind herself. After treatment, she regained her sight and committed herself to teaching the blind and deaf.
