A Scranton man pointed a shotgun at his son during a domestic dispute on Monday, according to a criminal complaint.
Gilbert Acevedo, 66, of 1204 Providence Road, faces charges of illegal possession of a firearm, assault, recklessly endangering another person and making terroristic threats.
According to the complaint, at about 8:20 p.m., officers were called to the residence for the report of an assault.
When police arrived, they spoke with Dayvin Acevedo, who identified himself as Gilbert Acevedo’s son and the victim.
Dayvin Acevedo told investigators he had been arguing with his father when his father went into his bedroom and shut the door.
Dayvin said he was on his way to the bedroom to continue the argument when his father opened the door holding a shotgun.
Dayvin Acevedo’s girlfriend was standing nearby and told officers she witnessed Gilbert Acevedo pointing the shotgun at his son, and had herself pulled away from the door because she was concerned about her own safety.
Gayle Lomax, a resident of the house, said she owned a shotgun but hadn’t seen it in years.
Officers found the weapon under the bed, near where Gilbert Acevedo had reportedly been standing when he aimed the gun.
Gilbert Acevedo admitted he had been in an argument with Dayvin but said he had aimed tear gas at his son and not a shotgun.
A criminal history indicated Gilbert Acevedo is a felon, precluding him from owning firearms.
He remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on April 20 before District Judge Joanne Corbett.
