ALLENTOWN, Pa. – An upcoming mass has been scheduled to commemorate a milestone for the Diocese of Allentown.
Bishop Alfred Schlert will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving marking the diocese’s 65th Anniversary on Saturday, April 11, at 4:15 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena, located at 1825 W. Turner Street, Allentown.
On April 11, 1961, Bishop Joseph McShea was installed as founding bishop, establishing the diocese that has served the Lehigh Valley and surrounding region for 65 years.
The special liturgy will bring together the faithful from across the five-county diocese to give thanks for 65 years of faith, service, and hope. The diocese includes parishes in Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Northampton and Schuylkill counties.
Representatives from parishes throughout the diocese will carry their parish banners in the entrance procession, and priests and deacons of the diocese are invited to concelebrate the Mass.
All are welcome to attend.
