ROME, N.Y. — A traffic stop on Erie Boulevard West led to charges for a Rome woman after police said she became uncooperative and struck an officer.

According to the Rome Police Department, officers pulled over a female driver in the 700 block of Erie Boulevard West at about 4:53 p.m. on April 9 after a traffic violation.

Police said the driver, identified as Amber R. Gardner, 34, of Rome, refused to provide identification, registration and insurance.

Police said when the officer tried to take Gardner into custody for obstructing official duties, she slapped and kicked him.

Gardner was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, obstructing governmental administration, harassment, resisting arrest and several traffic violations.

She was released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.
