A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of a fire that damaged a detached garage of a residence in Alsace Township.
A detached garage was discovered on fire shortly before 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the 2000 block of Mount Laurel Road, less than a half-mile north of Pricetown Road, which is Route 12.
The homeowner called 911 after someone who was driving by noticed the smoke, stopped and knocked on his door, said Dan Miller, chief of Blandon Fire Company.
Crews gained control of the fire within 10 minutes. Tanker trucks from area fire companies shuttled water to the scene while fire-suppression crews protected the home and other outbuildings.
Miller said that part of the roof of the two-bay garage was destroyed but the structure is intact. Contents of the garage included four lawn tractors and a car, which the owner is restoring.
The vehicles sustained water and smoke damage but should be usable once cleaned, Miller said.
