The New York Giants entered Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles hopeful they could sweep the season series for the first time in recent memory. Instead, they left with a loss that will give them nightmares.
Aided by abhorrent officiating that should result in the NFL sending the Giants an apology, Philadelphia dominated New York from the onset, spurred by a 65-yard Saquon Barkley touchdown run on the opening series of the game.
However, there were several multi-point swings in the game as a result of poor or missed calls, leading to a more lopsided final score.
Adding injury to insult, the Giants likely lost rookie running back Cam Skattebo for the season after he suffered a gruesome ankle injury and had to be taken to a local hospital. Also injured were cornerbacks Cor’Dale Flott and Art Green, tight end Daniel Bellinger, and nose tackle Dexter Lawrence.
Lawrence remained in the game, while the others did not.

Here’s how the game played out:

Even with the game well out of hand, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart did everything he could to make things happen with roughly 3:00 remaining in the game.
Aided by several scrambled and on-the-run throws, Dart capped off a seven-play, 65-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run.
Eagles 38, Giants 20
Cornerback Korie Black, who re-signed this week and appeared in his first career game, got absolutely Mossed by Eagles wide receiver Jahan Dotson for a 40-yard touchdown.
Brown was in position for the interception on an underthrown Jalen Hurts pass, but he was out-leaped by Dotson, who caught the ball over his head and walked into the endzone, capping a six-play, 73-yard drive.
Eagles 38, Giants 13
There are no words left to describe the officiating in the Giants-Eagles game. They called offensive pass interference on wide receiver Darius Slayton, wiping away a 68-yard touchdown.
Linebacker Bobby Okereke nearly fell down, paving the way for a 17-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts to tight end Dallas Goedert, who now has two scores on the day.
The drive: Seven plays, 72 yards, and 4:02 off the clock.
Eagles 31, Giants 13
On the first play of the fourth quarter, linebacker Brian Burns sacked Jalen Hurts for -16 yards. It was his 10th sack of the season, which leads the NFL.
With a chance to make it a one-score game, the Giants couldn’t get it done, settling for a 34-yard Graham Gano field goal to cap a 15-play, 59-yard drive.
Devin Singletary made a ridiculous catch (see below) to keep the drive alive, but receivers largely struggled to get open, leaving Dart nowhere to go. He was sacked on third down to end the drive.

Injury alert: TE Daniel Bellinger
After appearing to suffer a shoulder injury, tight end Daniel Bellinger headed into the blue medical tent for evaluation. He was later listed as questionable to return with a neck injury.
Injury update: Flott ruled out
After being punched in the face (accidentally) by linebacker Bobby Okereke, cornerback Cor’Dale Flott, who was evaluated for a concussion, was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
More referee-aided Eagles points
The Giants should expect some apologies from the NFL on Monday for the terrible officiating on Sunday.
On what would have been a third-down stop forcing a punt, cornerback Korie Black was called for a defensive pass interference after being thrown to the ground by an Eagles receiver.
With renewed life, the Eagles put three more points on the board with a 40-yard Jake Elliott field goal, capping an 11-play, 45-yard drive.

Halftime: Eagles 21, Giants 10
A nightmare half came to an end for the Giants, trailing the Eagles, 21-10. Not only is Big Blue down, but they likely lost rookie running back Cam Skattebo (ankle/leg) for the season.
Additionally, cornerback Cor’Dale Flott (head), cornerback Art Green (hamstring), and offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor (unknown) were all injured.
Beyond that, the officiating has been atrocious and one-sided, beginning with a bad call on a tush push-turned-fumble that they ruled down but allowed the ball to be advanced one yard. However, that was just one of many bad calls on the afternoon.
On their final possession of the first half, the Eagles methodically drove 58 yards on seven plays, capping things off with a six-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts to tight end Goedert.
Eagles 21, Giants 10
Injury alert: CB Cor’Dale Flott
Late in the second quarter, cornerback Cor’Dale Flott suffered a head injury when his teammate, linebacker Bobby Okereke, attempted to punch a ball out of an Eagles’ receiver’s hands and missed.
Flott was attended to on the field and then headed off to the sideline, where he was evaluated for a concussion.
In the aftermath of Skattebo’s injury, the Giants got the ball back and promptly drove 37 yards on six plays. But on a third-down pass (the seventh play of the drive), tight end Theo Johnson allowed a Jaxson Dart dime to go off his hands.
Instead of battling for a game-tying touchdown, the Giants settled for a 47-yard field goal courtesy of the returning Graham Gano.
Eagles 14, Giants 10
Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo suffered a gruesome ankle injury midway through the second quarter. He was carted off the field in an air cast and is out for the remainder of the game (likely the season).
On a play that never should have been, the Eagles capitalized on a poor call and quarterback Jalen Hurts hit running back Saquon Barkley for a nine-yard score — it was nearly identical to the Cam Skattebo touchdown.
The drive: 11 plays, 53 yards, and 6:18 off the clock.
Eagles, 14, Giants 7
Those of us at Giants Wire have never been proponents of banning The Tush Push, but that may change after Week 8.
While Jalen Hurts was attempting to extend the play and push the ball forward, he was clearly stripped by linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux, who was down by contact. Linebacker Brian Burns later grabbed the loose ball as potential replay insurance.
Despite the whistle coming in long after the play, officials ruled the play dead and Hurts down.
Giants cornerback Art Green left the game in the first quarter with a hamstring injury. He is questionable to return.
Capitalizing on good field position, the Giants’ rookie duo, quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Cam Skattebo, made magic again. On the ground and through the air, the pair carved out 52 yards on six plays, capped off by an 18-yard touchdown pass from Dart to Skatt.
Wide receiver Darius Slayton also had a 19-yard reception on the drive.
Giants 7, Eagles 7
The Giants, notorious for giving up long field goals (50 and 60-plus), caught a break midway through the first quarter when a Jake Elliott attempt from 58 yards doinked off the right side of the crossbar.
After the Eagles hit a home run on the second play of the game, the Giants responded with a three-and-out that included a neutral zone penalty on tight end Daniel Bellinger, and a negative one-yard pass to tight end Theo Johnson on third-and-10.
On the second offensive play of the game, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts handed off to running back Saquon Barkley, who proceeded to take it 65 yards to the house — completely untouched.
Linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux and cornerback Cor’Dale Flott failed to get off their blocks, while safety Tyler Nubin took a poor angle.
Eagles 7, Giants 0
The Giants have won the coin toss and opted to defer. Philadelphia will start on offense, and the Giants will receive the second-half kickoff.
Jalin Hyatt a healthy inactive
The Giants have released their list of inactives, including wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, who was not on the injury report.
