BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Local excitement over to Artemis II splashdown.

Marty McGuire, better known as backyard astronomy guy, has been sharing his passion for space online for years.

In 2017, he became a solar system ambassador volunteer for NASA.

“It’s really NASA leaning on us to help educate the public and extend their outreach that they do a considerable amount of, and just add to the excitement of what’s going on especially this week,” says McGuire.

As an ambassador, he goes to places like schools and libraries, to spread the word about NASA.

“Seeing people’s eyes light up when they see the moon through a telescope for the first time, or learn about something that NASA’s doing and just exploring our solar system the feeling of seeing that awe in somebody else, and giving them that own excitement and passion is what being an ambassador is all about,” says McGuire.

McGuire says Artemis II is inspiring a new generation.

“With this moon mission being the first time and the farthest that humans have ever been is just a really exciting milestone for the space program,”

That excitement felt ten-fold on Friday night.

With the world was watching as a mission, years in the making made its way back to earth.
