PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — Nearly three decades after the passing of Mary Walker, community members have not forgotten her contributions to Catholic education.
She taught in various Philadelphia schools for over 20 years.
Now, her former Kindergarten classroom at St. Martin de Porres School is dedicated to her name.
“Today means everything to me. My mom really believed in this community. She really believed in this school. She really believed in these kids,” said Dr. Lillian Walker Shelton, Mrs. Walker’s daughter.
“Kindergarten is that foundational age. For Mary to have been able to provide that opportunity for students and really set them on a path to success…I think is so long lasting for her legacy,” said Jessica Lopez, Principal of St. Martin de Porres School.
