A fire broke out at a Lower East Side home in the city of Erie on Monday morning.
Calls for the blaze came in around 7:30 a.m. The Erie Fire Department responded to the 1000 block of East 5th Street and was met with flames in a second-floor bedroom.
Three people were home at the time of the fire and had to be removed from the roof of the house before firefighters could begin to tackle the flames.
The deputy chief of the Erie Fire Department on scene said that there were no fire alarms in the home, and is reminding the public how important these are.
“Smoke damage, heat damage, but a lot of fire damage in that one bedroom. Luckily somebody closed the door, had the door closed. Otherwise, the whole second floor would have been full of fire,” said John Herrmann, deputy chief of the Erie Fire Department.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
