BETHEL TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Authorities are still trying to track down a driver they say struck and killed a Florida man on I-78. It happened in Bethel Township, Berks County on Friday.

“The State Police is classifying this as high priority,” said Trooper Ethan Brownback, PSP PIO for Troop L.

Investigators are working to identify the person driving a white tractor trailer or box truck along I-78 Friday. They say around 11:15 a.m., a vehicle fitting that description hit and killed a 33-year-old man.

The coroner has identified the victim as Phillip Daniel Henderson of Florida, who was pulled over at the time.

“The victim was outside his truck fixing straps on his flatbed trailer while along the shoulder of the right lane of I-78, when he was hit by the hit-and-run truck, which then left the scene of the crash,” Brownback explained.

Authorities say they are looking for any evidence that could help them get more information about the hit-and-run driver.

“We are respectfully requesting anyone traveling eastbound on I-78 at mile marker 13.3 on that date, April 10, 2026, between the hours of 11:00 and 11:20 in the morning with dashcam video of the striking vehicle, which was a white tractor trailer box truck traveling in the right lane with heavy to moderate passenger side damage. [It would be likely] missing a side mirror and metal mirror frame piece, or of the victim’s vehicle, a blue Volvo tractor trailer, to please contact the State Police Hamburg barracks,” added Brownback.

He says leaving the scene of a fatal crash like this could result in serious consequences.

“This would be homicide by motor vehicle at the top and then a plethora of other charges underneath that,” Brownback said.

The next of kin for the man killed was notified and an autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
