A multimillion dollar project intended to resurface and repair what PennDOT officials called “five miles of the interstate, the associated on-and-off ramps, and more than 20 bridges in the City of Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County,” will cause some closures and detours this week.
According to PennDOT, under this $41.3 million project, starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, and lasting through 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, the ramp from westbound I-76 to City Ave. will be closed and traffic will be detoured in order for crews to repair and repave the roadway.
Along with this project, also on Monday, PennDOT will begin evening lane closures along both directions of I-76 between Walnut Street and the Grays Ferry/University Ave. exit.
These shutdowns will be in place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, Nov. 7, 2025.
Then, beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, and running through 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2025, PennDOT crews will close lanes of westbound I-76 between Roosevelt Boulevard and Lincoln Drive/Kelly Drive interchanged for bridge repair work.
PennDOT officials said that commuters through these areas should plan to allow extra time in their morning commutes as “significant backups and delays may occur” due to the upcoming roadwork.
