Thomas ‘Tom’ J. Walsh

OBITUARY

Thomas “Tom” J. Walsh, a longtime Taylor resident, passed away on Friday at home following an illness. He was 87 years old.

He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Margaret “Peggy” Walsh. The couple celebrated its 50th wedding anniversary on December 20th.

Born on September 22, 1938, and son of the late Joseph and Mary (Gallagher) Walsh, Tom was raised in the Minooka section of Scranton.

Working until the age of 83 years young, he worked for Brooks Manufacturing in Old Forge before ultimately retiring from the Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton.

To be remembered in so many ways, above all else, he was a man of strong Christian faith. An avid outdoorsman, he spent his time hunting, fishing, and kayaking. Some of his best memories were made while attempting to raft down the Susquehanna River with his nephews, Joe and Bob Walsh. Although great memories, the trio didn’t make it too far. A former racer, Tom actually helped to build the former Moc-A-Tek Speedway in 1961. With a quick wit until the end, Tom was always telling jokes, whether appropriate or not. Leaving behind his loving family and lasting legacy, he will forever be missed.

He is survived by his children, Sharon Kline and husband Joseph of FL., Linda Aloe and husband Michael of S.C., Debora Yost and husband Larry AR., John Walsh and wife Kellie of Fl., Thomas Walsh, and wife Sarah of Dalton, Timothy Walsh of Taylor, Tina Walsh of Old Forge, and Troy Walsh and wife Briann of Taylor; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; and a brother, Joseph Walsh of Tunkhannock. Sisters, Catherine Smith and Rose Wesley, also preceded in death.

His family would like to extended its gratitude to both Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli and staff and Compassus Hospice for their care, kindness and genuine compassion.

Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Thursday at 9:15 AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Paul McDonnell, Pastor. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 4 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
