A Princeton University professor and former U.S. ambassador will present the 45th annual Leo Camp Memorial Lecture on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m., in Albright College’s South Lounge in the McMillan Student Center, located at 13th and Bern streets in Reading. Daniel C. Kurtzer, the S. Daniel Abraham Professor in Middle East Policy Studies at Princeton, has served as ambassador to Israel from 2001 to 2005 and to Egypt from 1997 to 2001. He was instrumental in formulating and executing U.S. policy toward the Middle East peace process. His talk is titled “Is the Middle East at an Inflection Point?”

Theology with a Twist
Theology with a Twist presents Helping Harvest President Jay Worrall delivering a program on “Food Insecurity in our Neighborhood” on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Kutztown Tavern, 272 W. Main St. He will discuss the drivers of local food insecurity and share ways in which our community is working to address those challenges. Attendees are encouraged to support local organization Friend Inc. by donating peanut butter and jelly for its food drive.

Basket making
Daniel Boone Homestead is holding a basket-making workshop on Nov. 16 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Wayside Lodge at the Exeter Township historic site. The featured project is a Fort Boonesborough basket. Colored reeds will be available. This basket is great for a beginner, and a more experienced weaver can add extra touches to make it more difficult.

The Barnes & Noble location in Broadcasting Square, Spring Township, selected Judith’s Reading Room, a Blandon-based nonprofit literacy organization, as its Holiday Book Drive Charity. Donated books will build up Judith’s Reading Room libraries in day care centers, schools and libraries that lack sufficient resources. Customers can participate by purchasing a book for donation at the store. The drive runs from Nov. 1 to mid-December..

Fall Fest

Train display
The Heritage of Green Hills in Cumru Township is hosting holiday-themed open houses at its train room Dec. 13 and Dec. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The train layout is created and curated by the senior living community’s residents. Cocoa and holiday treats will be served. A special holiday market featuring local vendors will be held in conjunction with the Dec. 13 open house. Holiday fun runs
The Wyomissing Department of Parks & Recreation invites the community to dress in holiday apparel and join in Holiday Lights Fun Runs & Walks. Three Wednesday evenings in December will feature a themed run or walk with prizes for the best dressed participants and holiday giveaways for those who complete all three events.
The schedule is as follows: Dec. 3, Ugly Sweaters Night, Berkshire Heights Playground; Dec. 10, Holiday Onesies Night, Wyomissing Hills Memorial Park; Dec. 17, Holiday Pajamas Night, Wyomissing High School parking lot.
Registration opens at 5:30 each night, and participants will step off at 6. Participants are encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations to support the Helping Harvest Food Bank.
