GAFFNEY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Gaffney City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to annex more than 500 acres for a proposed development.
The ordinance is to annex 566 acres off Northgate Road, just north of downtown Gaffney. The measure passed with a four to three vote.
Developers said the proposed project involves 1,500 single-family homes. It would be an age-restricted community for people 55 and older.
The proposed annexation was previously denied in February, following public comment from residents who say the project moved too fast and would have put a strain on city resources.
The ordinance still has to go through two more readings before it is fully approved.
