Charles W. Race

OBITUARY

Charles William “Chuck” Race, 72, of Mohnton, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in the Reading Hospital. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Lewannia Mae (Heist) and Charles A. Race and attended Governor Mifflin High School.

Chuck dedicated his life to his trade as an auto mechanic. He owned and operated his own garage in Reading for many years before selling it in 2007 and later continued his work at John Croft Service Center in Lincoln Park. Known for his strong work ethic and mechanical skill, he took great pride in helping others keep their vehicles running.

When not working, Chuck was deeply committed to serving his community. He volunteered as a firefighter with the Mohnton Fire Company and gave his time as an EMT with both the Governor Mifflin Ambulance and the Lower Alsace Ambulance Association. He was a member of Lodge No. 62 F&AM and Rajah Shrine and their Motor Corps. His willingness to help others in times of need spoke volumes about his character.

Chuck enjoyed riding his Harley, immersing himself in his beloved toy train collection, and playing his bass and steel guitars. He had a deep appreciation for history and especially enjoyed visits to the Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association and the Reading Railroad Historical Society.

Chuck is survived by his children: Amy Hiller, Charles Race, Christopher Jackson, and Elizabeth Brendle, and his siblings John Stamm, Jr. and Susan (Race) Durden, along with 10 grandchildren, two great grandsons, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Ralph Stamm.
