Mary McDermott

The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce recently promoted Mary McDermott to IGNITE program manager.

The IGNITE Program is the chamber’s entrepreneurship and business incubator program. It offers entrepreneurs in Lackawanna County with access to education, networking, and mentorship with the goal of fostering innovation and economic development.

“We’re incredibly excited to welcome Mary as the new Manager of the Chamber’s IGNITE Program,” Aaron Whitney, chamber director of facilities and asset management, said. “Her passion for supporting local entrepreneurs and helping ideas grow will bring fresh energy and momentum to our community. With her leadership, we’re looking forward to new opportunities, stronger connections, and an even greater impact from the IGNITE Program as we continue to nurture innovation and entrepreneurship right here in Lackawanna County.”

McDermott began working with IGNITE in 2022 as an intern and has advanced through multiple roles including work force and leadership assistant, and IGNITE Program specialist and grant writer. In her new role, McDermott will oversee all aspects of IGNITE and will provide direct business and technical support to IGNITE clients.

Client support includes funding opportunities, work force connections, and business plan development. Aspects McDermott will oversee include funding strategies, marketing initiatives, mentorship development, programmatic management, and special events.

“I’m honored to continue supporting our clients and helping the program grow and thrive,” said McDermott.
