Near record-breaking warmth is expected to continue Thursday before cooling down over the next few days in the Lehigh Valley.
A high of 86 was reached Wednesday, tying a record high for that day set in 1941 and 1994, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey. A high of 88 is expected Thursday, which is close to the record of 90 set for that day in 2012.
While high temperatures records might not be broken, the warmest low temperature for Thursday, set at 60 in 1941, could be broken: Forecasters are predicting a low of 64.
Thursday should be the last day in the 80s for the foreseeable future. Temperatures are expected to cool down slightly over the weekend before a significant drop in temperatures early next week.
Highs will be in the 70s Friday and Saturday, but will drop into the 50s and even 40s Sunday and Monday, according to forecasters. The weather service said there could be frost or freeze conditions to start the week. There is also a chance of rain Saturday night and Sunday.
Here are the stats for today’s summer-like, record breaking heat. Additionally, the warm temperatures and minimum humidity values could cause any fires ignited Thursday to rapidly spread, forecasters warned. Outdoor burning is discouraged.
