The University of Scranton’s Hayes Family Science Competition returned to the school Thursday with a demonstration of two student-programmed robots working together to strum the strings of a 5-foot-long replica guitar. Approximately 200 high school students from school districts across the region were on hand for the competition that brings students together for a day of hands-on science challenges focused on the theme “Waves.” Students worked to demonstrate problem-solving, teamwork and applied physics concepts while competing across two divisions for first-, second- and third-place trophies. The robot guitar is the event’s signature moment, blending robotics, sound waves and engineering. Teams from Delaware Valley and North Pocono were the champions of Divisions 1 and 2, respectively, at the competition.
