Firefighters in Berks County successfully rescued a dog and its owner who were stranded about 60 feet down a steep drop at a quarry in Maidencreek Township near Fleetwood. Crews first received reports of the trapped pair on Wednesday before noon.Due to limited access and terrain, officials said crews determined a rope rescue was the best option. The Blandon Fire Company used a carefully rigged rope system to lower a rescuer to the pair and then hoisted both safely back to the top. After about 45 tense minutes, the rescue ended with both the owner and the dog safely back on solid ground.
