SCRANTON, LACKWANNA CO. (WOLF) — According to authorities, officers were called Friday morning to the U.S. Post Office on Stafford Avenue after a man allegedly phoned in threats, saying he intended to harm federal workers and his supervisor.

The situation led to a heightened police presence in the area, including responses at both the post office and the nearby federal courthouse. A drone was deployed as part of the search, and officials issued a Code Red alert, urging the public to avoid the area.

Police say the suspect was later taken into custody without incident at the Taylor Post Office along South Main Street.

Court records identify the man as John P. Lepka, 39, of Lake Ariel. He is charged with terroristic threats and harassment.

Lepka was unable to post $50,000 bail and remains in the Lackawanna County Prison.

He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing later this month.

Authorities have not released additional details about the investigation.
