RICHMOND TWP, Pa. – Driving along Route 222 near Schuler Road Sunday evening, Jordyn Stone was heading down the road when everything changed.
“I heard a big boom. I see right in front of me two cars that hit each other,” said Stone, a volunteer firefighter with the Black Rock Volunteer Fire Co. “I saw that there was smoke. I see the one driver gets out of the vehicle. I see him bleeding from his leg, and I immediately ran over to the other vehicle because I saw that the other driver did not get out of the vehicle.”
The crash happened just before 6 p.m. in Richmond Township.
Police say 18-year-old Connor Koontz, a Fleetwood Area High School senior, was driving southbound when the vehicle crossed the center line and hit another car head-on.
Stone rushed to help.
“I broke the driver door to get into the car and had to cut out the airbags because the airbags were completely deployed,” Stone said. “So I had to cut all of them out.”
Koontz was rushed to the hospital but died early Monday morning.
The coroner says the cause of death was blunt force trauma, and the crash has been ruled accidental.
“Seeing someone close to your own age pass away that young is terrible,” Stone said. “It just makes me sad. I know that he was a senior in high school. He had a lot of good things coming up to experience in life, and unfortunately, now he doesn’t get to, and it truly breaks my heart.”
