PITTSBURGH —

Those chosen as official vendors for the NFL draft are feeling all the feelings, from anxious to excited to nervous to even a little overwhelmed. Hundreds of thousands of people will be tasting their food, and on Tuesday, we learned what’s on the menu.

“They can expect the best food they ever ate in their life. We have the best chicken you’ve ever eaten,” said Jeff Patterson, with P’s Bird Wagon.

“We’ll have slices of plain (pizza), slices of pepperoni, slices of sweet and spicy pepperoni. Sweet and spicy pepperoni is one of our top sellers,” said Francesca Veneziano with Vitalia Wood Fired Oven.

“Our top selling are perfectly seasoned, slow-roasted pork, which will be our main entrée item, as well as our yellow rice and peas, and our sweet plantains,” said Doug Raible, with Secretos de Mis Abuelos.

“Our staples are cold-pressed juices, but I think açai bowls and smoothies are always a hit,” said Declan Hartnett with Live Fresh.

That’s just four of the eight local businesses you can expect to be on display during the draft, which starts Thursday.

With just two days to go, these vendors were gearing up.

“It’s certainly been a lot,” said Raible.

“The scale is just crazy, the amount of work that goes into it — the preparation, the products, the food,” said Patterson.

And we’re learning just how much preparation goes into a full-scale event like this.

“We’re prepping 10,000 slices, 5,000 pepperoni rolls, 3,500 servings of pasta salad, I think 3,000 mini cannolis, so we’re prepping and we have continuously been,” said Veneziano.

“We got 2,800 pounds of chicken tenders, along with 1,000 pounds of fresh-cut potatoes already,” said Patterson.

On top of the nerves and excitement comes a sense of pride and gratitude that they were chosen in the first place.

“It also means a lot to be able to represent the Cranberry Township and Pittsburgh community on a national stage,” said Veneziano.

“My business partner, Felipe, this is his family’s authentic recipes, so it’s huge for them. I’m sure it’s going to be major for their family,” said Raible.

The other vendors you can expect are Street Fries, Remo’s Catering, The Roaming Bean, and Patti’s Pastries. They were unavailable for comment Tuesday.
