In a rematch of last year’s Eastern League Championship, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies would fall in the series opener to the Erie SeaWolves in a 3-2 final at Mirabito Stadium.
Binghamton managed to take a one run lead in the bottom of the fourth before Erie responded in the following inning to tie the contest. The SeaWolves scored the game winning run off an RBI single by Peyton Graham.
Five different Rumble Ponies picked up a hit in the loss, Marco Vargas led all Ponies with two hits.
Zach Thornton got the start for Binghamton and pitched a solid outing as the lefty threw six strikeouts through six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits.
The two sides will continue their series on Wednesday at Mirabito Stadium.
