PITTSBURGH, PA —Additional charges have been filed in the death last year of Renesmay Eutsey. The 9-year-old girl’s body was found partially submerged in Youghiogheny River in Westmoreland County.
Renesmay’s grandmother, Theresa Marie Shipley, 63, and Sandra Lynn Umensetter, 51, a family friend, are charged with endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person, according to the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office.
Kourtney Eutsey and Sarah Shipley already have been charged in connection with the death.
Shipley 35, and Eutsey, 31, have been charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, child endangerment and corruption of minors.
Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele released the following statement on the matter.
“On March 16, 2026, we received an autopsy report and other documents from the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office, which confirmed that Renesmay died of malnourishment and neglect; additional causes included blunt force trauma to the head, neck, torso, and extremities.
“The primary cause of death is identical to the alleged injuries against a 7-year-old victim who was hospitalized but survived.
“Additionally, cellular analysis was performed on the defendants’ cell phones, which confirmed numerous dates and times in the months before Renesmay’s death that these two were in the care, custody, and/or control of the children in the home.
“In short, the children in the home were subjected to severe child abuse and neglect over a long period of time. These two defendants were present for it and supervised these children during the times they were severely abused; they did nothing to help them.”
