The U.S. Department of Justice has provided a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) for drones and unauthorized unmanned aerial systems. No unauthorized UAS devices or drones will not be permitted within two nautical miles and 2,000 vertical feet from where the 2026 NFL Draft is taking place in Pittsburgh.
Any unauthorized systems will be tracked by FBI Pittsburgh, the Federal Aviation Administration, Pennsylvania State Police, and other local, state, and federal partners.
Those who violate the TFR might be intercepted, detained, and interviewed by law enforcement. Additional penalties may be taken against the pilot if they do not comply. These penalties include civil penalties, revocation of pilot licensure, criminal charges, or confiscation of the drone.
Drones may be spotted in the surrounding areas; there is a list of approved drones and law enforcement has a list of these devices. Drones not approved will be perceived as a national security safety risk and will be dealt accordingly.
The FBI will be leading federal law enforcement agency to enforce airspace security measures throughout the NFL Draft. FBI personnel will be available to provide expertise and skill sets to keep the City of Pittsburgh safe.
More information about the TFR can be found online here.
