WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Lehigh Valley Health Network wants to build a satellite hospital in Whitehall Township.
The proposed project would be built behind Whitehall Diner, between MacArthur Road and Lehigh Street.
On Wednesday night, a public meeting was held including Whitehall Commissioners, the public and LVHN, where residents voiced their concerns and had the opportunity to ask questions about the project.
LVHN is currently requesting a zoning change for the neighborhood from R2 residential to R3 high density residential, which would help facilitate this project if approved.
“That’s a little controversial having a hospital in a residential district. I think it’s a problem that Whitehall has, thinking about the comprehensive plan of Whitehall and the development that’s accelerating,” said Taylor Stakes, Whitehall commissioner.
The proposed hospital would be fully functioning with an emergency room, similar to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Carbon in Lehighton.
