Metro Philadelphia
The Wardrobe will offer free clothing to individuals in the reentry community later this month as part of its ongoing effort to address clothing insecurity in the Philadelphia region.
The nonprofit’s monthly “Open Wardrobe” event is scheduled for April 29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at five locations across the region. The event is open to people who are formerly justice-involved — including those on probation, parole, or enrolled in reentry programs — and in need of clothing.
Participants will receive free clothing along with additional community resources from Fruits of the Family Table, FIGHT Institute for Community Justice, Free Library of Philadelphia, Project HOME, Philadelphia Community Bail Fund, Uplift Solutions, and The Elevation Project, according to organizers.
The event will take place at The Wardrobe sites in Philadelphia, Upper Darby, Kennett Square, Exton, and Norristown. Organizers said attendees must register in advance through the organization’s website.
Year-round impact and services
The Wardrobe, which has operated for more than 30 years, focuses on eliminating clothing insecurity and supporting individuals as they work toward stability and independence. The organization provides free clothing, as well as career support services such as one-on-one coaching and workshops. The Wardrobe supports approximately 10,000 people annually.
The nonprofit upcycles more than 200,000 pounds of gently used or new clothing annually, creating a reliable source of quality, free clothes to help empower participants. Every item donated to The Wardrobe is ethically repurposed—either used for free guest services, added to its resale inventory, or recycled.
Beyond clothing, The Wardrobe provides a Wings for Success education program, which offers one-on-one coaching and workshops to help participants achieve professional or personal goals.
