Summer session at SLB Radio’s Youth Media Center are filling up, but there are still spots available. And need-based full and partial scholarships are still available, too.
For middle schoolers and and high schoolers who want to share their voices with the world, summer camps at the Youth Media Center are a valuable launch pad. Camp themes for 2026 include podcasting, songwriting and the launch of a new, audio-first literary magazine. Students can learn new skills, make friends and be heard.
For students who want to check out the Youth Media Center before summer begins, there are plenty of drop-in programs happening during the month of May. New teens are always welcome and all activities are free. (You’ll find SLB’s studio inside the Children’s Museum on Pittsburgh’s Northside.)
Look for upcoming events at SLB’s Student Hub. Upcoming programs include International Workers’ Day (May 5, 4:30 p.m.), Profile Practice (May 12, 4:30 p.m.), Paper Flower Poems (May 16, 12 p.m.), Haiku Zine (May 19, 4:30 p.m.), Twist My Words (May 26, 4:30 p.m.), and Finding Your Voice: Anime and English Dub (May 30, 12 p.m.), as well as weekly youth reporter meetups (Mondays, 4 p.m.), Dungeons & Dragons (Wednesdays, 4 p.m.).
And don’t miss Soapbox (Thursdays, 4 p.m.), a new program where youth can perform, collaborate, or simply listen as the Youth Media Center becomes a home for songs, poems, stories, and on-the-spot improv.
