L. MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. – The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office identified a 22-year-old man from Coopersburg who died after a car and tractor-trailer collided on I-78 in Lower Macungie Township.
Ryan W. Gretz was driving the car that was involved in the crash, the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office said in a news release.
It happened in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 54 Thursday night. That’s between the exit for Route 100 and Route 222.
The coroner says he was dispatched to the scene just before midnight. Shortly after, he declared the man dead on the scene.
The cause of death is multiple blunt force injuries, and the manner of death is accident, according to the coroner’s office.
“The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office extends its deepest condolences to Mr. Gretz’s family, as well as to all those impacted by this tragic incident,” the coroner’s office said.
His 21-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.
The tractor-trailer’s driver was not injured, state police said.
The roadway was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
