BERN TWP., Pa. – An Eagle Scout project in Bern Township is making it possible for everyone to enjoy the great outdoors.
Exeter senior Gavin Wanner designed and constructed a new accessible fishing pier at Blue Marsh Lake.
Officials held a ribbon cutting for it Friday.
Wanner spent more than 700 hours working on the project, raising more than $35,000, recruiting other volunteers and even managing changes through the government shutdown.
He said it was all about filling a need in the community.
“This specific project had been on her list, so it was definitely in need,” Gavin said.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also recognized Wanner today, awarding him the Corps’ Foundation Volunteer Excellence Coin.
