Long awaited repairs to the Indian Creek Road Bridge over Leibert Creek in Upper Milford Township begin Monday and will cause detours around the area, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Indian Creek Road will be closed and detoured between Cedar Crest Boulevard (Route 29) and Brookside Road. The detour will affect Cedar Crest Boulevard, Lower Macungie Road and Brookside Road.
PennDOT said the project involves replacing the existing dual steel pipe arch bridge with a new pre-cast reinforced concrete box culvert, in addition to roadway reconstruction and guide rail installation. The detours are expected to last until September.
The existing bridge is 14 feet long and 29 feet wide and was constructed in 1973. The new structure will be 41 feet long and slightly more narrow. About 2,100 vehicles use that part of Indian Creek Road daily.
The Indian Creek bridge replacement is part of a larger project on that road that is expected to be finished in January, according to PennDOT.
