Paris Machado had 12 kills to lead second-seeded Delaware Valley to a 3-1 (25-27, 25-14, 25-15, 25-8) win over No. 3 Hazleton Area on Monday in the District 2-4 Class 4A girls volleyball semifinals.
Delaware Valley (13-4) advanced to the subregional final to play in a rematch with District 4 champion Williamsport on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at North Pocono High School. The Lady Warriors, as the top-rated team in District 2, won their 16th consecutive championship.
“Hazleton is a great team, and after losing the first set, I knew that we had to dig deep to finish it out,” Delaware Valley coach Karley May said. “All season, my girls have been working hard to be able to pull through in situations like tonight. Once we got rolling, there was no stopping us.”
Cece Dickerson had 11 kills, and Bri Waldron had 10. Makayley Hughes had 36 assists and 14 service points for Delaware Valley.
“I’m super proud of all the work they’ve put in and I’m excited to see how far this team can take it,” May said. “I think we can make a run in the playoffs.”
Class 1A
Addison Kilmer had 12 kills, five blocks, and three digs to lead top-seeded Mountain View to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-14) win over No. 4 Lackawanna Trail in the District 2 Class 1A semifinals.
Mountain View (11-12), the defending district champion, advanced to Wednesday’s final against MMI Prep (8-14), which will be held 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Class 4A final at North Pocono High School.
Aubrey Sanders had 21 assists and five aces, Karley Norton had six kills, Abbie Mitchell had three kills, four aces, and two blocks, and Addison Tompkins had two kills, four aces, and two digs for the Lady Eagles, who avenged an earlier loss to Lackawanna Trail.
Mackenna Coggins had four aces and four digs, Cheyanne Zina added three kills and four assists, and Sara Drake had six digs for Lackawanna Trail (1-18).
MMI Prep 3, Susquehanna 2: Lauren Huyck had 23 assists and 15 digs, but it wasn’t enough to get the Lady Sabers back to the District 2 Class 1A final.
MMI Prep (8-14) advanced to the championship match Wednesday with a 22-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-14, 15-11 win in the semifinals at Mountain View.
Camryn Sellitto finished with five kills and 33 digs, and Jordyn Spoor had five kills and 10 digs for the Lady Sabers (6-16).
