SHILLINGTON, Pa. – This weekend in Berks County, every kick, every strike, and every board broken will help a family in need.
The students and instructors at Elite Leadership Martial Arts Academy in Cumru Township will host a Board Break-A-Thon on Sunday to benefit a local nonprofit.
They have raised more than $2,500, so far, and hope to raise $5,000 for Growing Wildflowers- an organization that helps families with children who have complex medical needs.
And here’s why they chose this particular nonprofit.
“They were started by my family,” said Kayl DeLong, student and instructor at the academy. “We had a family member – I had a cousin, Thea, which she did unfortunately pass in November of 2022- but she was a very- she had some complex medical needs, and she was a very nice little girl…They have given out over 60-plus sponsors, and they just help people in general.”
You can help make a difference by making a pledge. Then, these karate students will battle it out to see how many boards they can break in one minute.
All money raised will go to Growing Wildflowers so it can help more families like Thea’s.
