A familiar landmark at the eastern gateway of West Lawn is gone.

The former Schoellkopf Service Center, a gas station and repair shop that operated for half a century at Penn and Morwood avenues in Spring Township, was recently torn down after sitting vacant since 2021.

According to Berks County online property records, the 0.9-acre property, which carries the address of 2005 Penn Ave., was sold that year to Kazi Family Pennsylvania LLC, based in Hershey, for $765,000.
