Kevin Carson
OBITUARY
On April 25, 2026, Kevin Carson was called home to God unexpectedly. He was 65 years old.
Kevin was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to the late Patricia Dean Carson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Dean Carson and his brother, William Carson.
When Kevin was a young man, he moved to New York City to build a career with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 608 and later, Local 157. He loved New York City and working as a carpenter alongside his very best friends, and he refused to ever miss a day of work. After the attacks on September 11, 2001, Kevin worked alongside his brothers with Local 608 doing rescue and recovery in the immediate aftermath. Despite the traumatic event, Kevin was proud and dedicated to serving the city and worked at Ground Zero for 10 years. Kevin retired from carpentry after 36 years and wore a bathrobe to work on his last day. Kevin was a drummer in the New York City Carpenters Union Pipe & Drum band and loved to play in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade every year.
When Kevin was still a teenager, he met the love of his life, MaryAnn Poveromo. The pair were married on August 22nd, 1987. Together, they built a happy life in the Poconos. They have two children, Molly, 34, and Kevin, 30. Molly and Kevin grew up with the most loving and present parents in the world and will fondly remember hearing their parents laughing together loudly and often.
Shortly after retiring, Kevin started working as a custodian at Pocono Mountain East High School where he gained even more friends. Kevin loved helping out at the school and always expressed his joy of socializing with students with disabilities for various events.
Kevin absolutely loved all animals, including his dog Chloe that he enjoyed going on walks with every day, rain or shine. He was also a cat lover, rescuing multiple cats and feeding strays that he came across in New York City and at home.
He was a passionate fan of Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football as well as the New York Yankees, where he regularly went to games with his son Kevin and his friends. Kevin also enjoyed watching his son play guitar live with his band.
All who knew Kevin were aware of his endless sense of humor. He always knew how to lighten the mood by making people laugh. His charismatic personality resonated with those he interacted with and has left a lasting impression. He was known to go out of his way to help others.
Kevin instilled a protester’s spirit in his children. He rallied for organized labor in New York and later participated in multiple protests in the community. Kevin was proud of his childrens career paths in public service and proudly kept their business cards in his wallet. His daughter Molly is a Chief Detective specializing in child abuse crimes and his son Kevin is a District Office Director with the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
Kevin will be deeply missed by all and we will carry his memory with us forever.
A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held Friday from 11 am – 1:00 pm in the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton. Interment in Valley View Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kevins honor to AWSOM Animal Shelter or Camp Papillon.
