When you’re in the same sentence as the legendary Larry Miller, you know you’re doing something right as a Lehigh Valley boys basketball player.
This year, Bethlehem Christian’s Gabe Transue put himself in the same sentence as late Miller, the Catasauqua great who died last year, when he became No. 2 all-time on the area’s scoring list with 2,257, behind only Miller who finished with an incredible 2,722 points.
Transue now has something else in common with Miller. He has been named first-team all-state in Class A by the Pennsylvania High School Sportswriters for the 2025-26 season.
Transue, who averaged 29.1 points, 12 rebounds and three assists per game, was not the only Bethlehem Christian player honored.
His teammate, Myles Harris, was a second-team selection in Class A. Harris averaged 23.4 points and 62 rebounds per game for the Panthers, who won their second straight District 11 Class A title.
Also honored among PIAA players was Pocono Mountain West’s K.J. Coles, who earned a second-team spot in Class 6A and Notre Dame-Green Pond’s Justin Manning, who was a second-team choice in Class 3A.
Coles was the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference’s MVP and averaged 21.2 points per game. He finished his career with 1,777 points, the most in school history and the second-most ever in Monroe County. He also finished with a school-record 268 3-pointers and shot a school-record 91.8% from the foul line.
Manning averaged 21 points, three assists and two steals and was the catalyst to the Crusaders winning the District 11 3A title and three state playoff games, He scored 102 points in four PIAA playoff contests, including 28 against West Catholic in the state semis. He was the Colonial League MVP and ended his junior year with 1,016 points.
Transue and Manning were The Morning Call’s co-players of the year.
Also honored was Allentown Central Catholic graduate Jahrel Vigo, who was selected to the first team of the non-PIAA squad. Vigo had an outstanding post-graduate year at the Phelps School in Malvern. Vigo averaged 18 points, seven rebounds five assists per game and shot 56% from the field. Vigo was a third-team PIAA selection as a junior and second team last year as a senior. He is a University of Buffalo commit.
