BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A business that aims to “champion reuse and inspire a future where secondhand is second nature” is expanding its footprint with a new retail location in the Lehigh Valley.

The space, which is undergoing renovations, was previously home to a Big Lots store.
The new Savers location, which will be the company’s first Lehigh Valley store, is expected to hold a grand opening on Aug. 13, according to manager Steven Hill.
The Savers family of thrift stores is the largest for-profit thrift operator in the United States and Canada, according to a corporate overview.
By partnering with non-profit organizations, the company redirects billions of pounds of secondhand clothing and household goods away from landfills and onto its store racks and shelves for reuse – conserving the planet’s natural resources.

Over the last five years, 2021-2025, Savers diverted more than 3.6 billion pounds of goods from landfills and paid more than $534 million to its non-profit partners for secondhand clothing and household goods.
“Through a data-driven, vertically integrated model that maximizes productivity across the supply, retail and wholesale components of the business, we are revolutionizing thrift operations,” the company description continues.
“Last year alone (2025), our thrifters purchased millions of items, contributing to $1.7 billion in net sales – proving that what’s good for business can also be good for people and the planet. That’s our triple bottom line and why we are so proud to be leading the reuse economy.”
Savers traces its origins to 1954, when its first thrift shop opened in an old movie theater in San Francisco’s Mission District, according to a historical account.

Since then, the business has opened more than 300 stores across the U.S., Canada and Australia, and it has consistently partnered with local nonprofit organizations.
The company accepts donations of clothing and household items on their behalf, paying them for those goods, and helps fund programs in local communities.
In addition to Savers, some locations operate under the names Value Village, Unique and 2nd Ave.
Thousands of fresh items are stocked daily.

In Pennsylvania, Savers currently operates five stores in Fairless Hills, Harrisburg, King of Prussia, Philadelphia and York.
Shoppers can browse tens of thousands of unique treasures for nearly every room of the house.
