The General Election is one week away and Tuesday is the final day to vote early or to request a mail in or absentee ballot.
The voter registration office was busy with people requesting a mail in ballot or voting early.
There are 149 different voting precincts which means 149 different ballots with a variety of races.
Election officials say it’s always best to go in with a voting plan and to use this next week to read up on candidates before heading to the polls to vote especially because this year there are a lot of big races for the county.
According to Tonia Fernandez, the Director of Elections, “ We have the County Executive race on the ballot, County Council, we have our Clerk of Records. We have all of our school boards, members are on the ballot, not all of them, but every school board has a few seats up for re-elections or election.”
Mail in ballots are due by 8:00 on Election night and the Election office is still waiting for thousands of ballots. According to Fernandez, “A lot of outstanding ballots. So we still have around 8,000 that still have not been returned yet. We have sent out 24,000 and we have received a little over 15,000 back.”
The polls open at 7:00 a.m. on Election Day and close at 8:00 p.m.
