This weekend, one borough in Wyoming County is allowing its residents to dump unwanted appliances and bulky items.

FACTORYVILLE, Pa. — Old rugs, garden hoses, and plastic containers are just some of the items Factoryville residents have been getting rid of.

“You are doing a construction project. You fill it up, and fill it up. You can’t just throw it in your garbage. Your normal, ordinary garbage. So my garage was waiting and longing for the day that the dumpster would be available,” said Mike Conroy, Factoryville.

Mike Conroy is a father of four from Factoryville Borough in Wyoming County. He’s seen the piles build up over the years. “Sheetrock was a huge one. And I hate to say it, I had a beloved jungle gym in my yard for many years that the flood of 2023 destroyed. So I had to bring its remains today.”

This is the second year for the junk cleanup in Factoryville. Mayor Lou Jasikoff says the community of about 1200 people needed something like this. “If you have a full pickup load, how do you get rid of all the garbage without maybe putting it out three, four weeks. Come here, dump it here. We have our town members here helping the residents unload and dumping their stuff into the dumpster.”

There are some things they aren’t accepting, including tires, paint cans, and some electronics.

“Our maintenance manager is the one working it, and he knows what’s allowed and what’s not allowed,” said Mayor Jasikoff.

The junk drop-off in Factoryville is open again Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mayor Lou will be back then, too.

“I’m going to go back down to my home on Riverside Drive and load up the pickup truck and come back down. 40 bucks, it’s a great way to save a few dollars and get the house cleaned up,” said Jasikoff.

The cost is $25 per load for small cars and $40 per truck, large SUVs, vans.
