ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Police say a sixth person has now been charged in connection with a 2024 killing at Fountain Park.

According to the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, 23‑year‑old Jose Batista‑Gabin of the Bronx, NY, is facing felony charges of criminal homicide and conspiracy, along with a misdemeanor charge for tampering with evidence.

Authorities say Batista‑Gabin was arrested over the weekend by U.S. Marshals without incident. He is currently being held in a New York prison awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.

He is the sixth person charged in the June 1, 2024 killing of 25‑year‑old Angel Martinez‑Velez of Allentown, who died from multiple gunshot wounds. The Lehigh County Coroner ruled his death a homicide.

The other defendants include Grelvis Estevez Cabrera, Alfeni Romero‑Taveras, Joel Garcia Paulino, Wilmer Esquiel Marte‑Tavarez, and Carlos Landesta‑Agramonte.

Police say officers were called to the basketball courts at Fountain Park around 6:30 p.m. on the day of the shooting. The park had been filled with adults and children just minutes earlier. Witnesses reported seeing two masked gunmen wearing distinctive clothing who fled in a dark Honda Accord.

Investigators later determined a second vehicle was also involved. City camera footage captured both cars speeding away from the park together immediately after the shooting. Police tracked the vehicles across the city and eventually identified their license plates, which led them to Landesta‑Agramonte’s home on East Court Street.

Surveillance video from nearby homes and businesses showed Batista‑Gabin and several other suspects in those vehicles less than two hours after the killing. Police say the group was seen moving clothing, masks, and other items that matched witness descriptions.

Several defendants are still awaiting trial, including Romero‑Taveras, Garcia Paulino, and Marte‑Tavarez.

Estevez Cabrera was convicted by a jury in October 2025 of first‑degree murder, conspiracy, and evidence tampering. He received a life sentence without parole plus an additional 9 to 40 years.

Landesta‑Agramonte pleaded guilty to third‑degree murder and conspiracy and was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in state prison.
