Lackawanna County officials are investigating the death of an infant early Saturday morning, according to District Attorney Brian Gallagher.

Scranton police officers responded to 106 South Rebecca Avenue at about 2 a.m. to investigate the death of a 5-week-old baby.

There city police found Estephanie Vigo, the infant’s mother, who became increasingly disorderly and demanded to see the child, according to the criminal complaint.

Vigo, 34, told officers she would “act in a manner that would cause them to shoot her,” police said.

She threatened to go into the kitchen, retrieve a knife and attack officers, in an effort to be shot.

Vigo is charged with three counts of  making terroristic threats. She remains in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 13 before District Judge Laura Turlip.

The investigation is ongoing, Gallagher said.
