SCRANTON, Pa. — McDade Park in Lackawanna County is getting four pickleball courts this summer.

The county commissioners on Wednesday awarded the building contract to Wince Construction, of Ransom Township, the lowest responsible bidder at $200,444.

The project is funded entirely out of a $400,000 Local Share Account grant awarded in the 2024-2025 round, so the county’s general fund wont be touched, according to county officials.

The new pickleball courts will be adjacent to the park’s existing tennis courts, which are also slated for a revamp,

Tom Carlucci, the county’s director of economic development, said during Wednesday’s public meeting he did not have an exact timeline for the work, but the bid paperwork puts completion before July 31, 2026.

He said the construction will add a “highly attractive public amenity” to one of the county’s parks.

“This is a strong investment,” Carlucci said.

The scope of the work covers installation of pathways, four pickleball courts, fences, gates, earthwork, erosion and sedimentation controls, storm drainage and landscaping.
