A homeless man threatened a Turkey Hill convenience store manager on April 30, creating a public disturbance, according to a criminal complaint.
Marvin Thomas, 30, faces charges of disorderly conduct, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the criminal complaint, Scranton police officers were called to the Meridian Avenue convenience store at about 5:30 p.m. for the report of a man who was attempting to fight the store manager and creating a disturbance.
Officers found Thomas standing outside, hands in his pockets.
Police instructed Thomas to remove his hands from his pockets and he initially complied, but then returned one of his hands to a pocket, according to the complaint.
When police asked why he did that, Thomas removed from his pocket a black bag containing a small amount of marijuana and handed it over to officers.
Officers searched Thomas and found rolling papers, commonly used to smoke marijuana, police said.
Store manager Luis Quinones told officers Thomas came into the store with an “attitude.”
As Quinones was speaking with a co-worker, Thomas approached him and asked him why he was smiling.
Thomas then threatened to hurt Quinones and suggested they “take this outside.”
Thomas continued yelling and using vulgar language until police arrived, according to the complaint.
He remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Monday before District Judge Paul Keeler.
