STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Trinity Health System could soon become part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center network under a proposed agreement announced this week.
Trinity’s parent organization, CommonSpirit Health, and UPMC have signed a nonbinding letter of intent to negotiate the integration of Trinity Health System into the UPMC system. The move aims to strengthen health care services for patients in the Ohio Valley region.
Both health systems said they share a commitment to expanding access to advanced medical care while keeping services local. For more than two decades, Trinity and UPMC have collaborated on several major clinical programs, including
Cancer care — A partnership with UPMC Hillman Cancer Center has allowed Steubenville-area patients to receive leading-edge oncology treatment close to home.
Orthopedic services — UPMC’s specialists have worked alongside Trinity providers to enhance local bone and joint care.
Earlier this year, CommonSpirit and Trinity began exploring potential regional partners to ensure the long-term sustainability of high-quality care in the community.
Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming months, with both organizations aiming to finalize a definitive agreement pending standard regulatory approvals. Leaders from both Trinity and UPMC say they hope to complete the affiliation as soon as possible.
